For me, Monday 15th November 2023 will live in the memory – and it was not a great day. I had visited my doctor with a slight niggle, had taken a precautionary PSA test…. and the test had come back significantly positive. It was a slam-dunk. I had cancer.
The next year was tough, but thanks to my amazing medical team at Derriford Hospital (and throughout the NHS) I pulled through.
It was at this time that, licking my wounds and feeling pretty battered, I joined the Into the Blue programme. And that really was the start of my mental recovery. I regained confidence, adapted and relearnt what I could do. I also found support and camaraderie in the Whole Shoal which continues today. For me, it was utterly transformational. And I can’t recommend it enough.
It just so happens that in my other life – my professional life – I have spent the past 35 years setting up and growing companies; I am currently CEO of Skilltec Training. I have broad experience of helping individuals and organisations develop their skills and reach their full potential, helping turn ambitious visionary ideas into practical, achievable outcomes.
So, keen to give back, I was absolutely delighted to be able to join Into the Blue as a Trustee.
We want to help more people living with a cancer diagnosis to access these incredible programmes - by providing more courses in more areas.
